Pieces and cream

If you fancy a run round the city's major Festival exhibitions, the day to do it is Saturday 12 August. To celebrate 150 years in the art business, the National Galleries Of Scotland is having a free for all. For one day only, you can catch Constable’s Clouds, Salvador Dali’s Optical Illusions, The Private Klee, The Art Of Documentary and Men Of The Clyde without opening your wallet; a saving of £11.50. Having done that, make sure you end up at the Gallery Of Modern Art between noon and 4pm where there’ll be a 150th birthday picnic on the lawn. Bring your own sandwiches or partake in strawberries and cream, Pimms and birthday cake.

Daze like these

With the Fringe comes the TV shows. If you haven’t had your fill running from show to show seeing all the stuff in real life, you can set your video to record the rival efforts of Scottish TV and BBC Scotland to squeeze it into the small screen. Festival Daze kicked off last Monday With the first of three half-hour programmes from Scottish presented by Forbes Masson, enjoying new found fame on EastEnders, and Hilary Lyon. Curiously, both presenters are ex-partners of actor Alan Cumming, one profesSIonaIIy, the other romantically. The BBC ’5 Edinburgh Review begins on Sunday 13 August (With Sister programme Edinburgh Comedy gomg out on Friday 18 August) presented by Mariella Frostrup and Jayne Middlemiss, neither of whom are related to Alan Cumming.
