HARD HOUSE Oxygen Presents

Tidy Bo s, tidy tunes at Oxygen’s Festiva one-off Oxygen opened its doors almost a

year ago, with the stated aim of putting the glamour back into Edinburgh clubbing. Cynics who may have felt that Studio 24 wasn‘t the best venue to house such an enterprise have been forced to eat their words as. after major decoration efforts and a raft of guest DJs (from Lisa Pinup to Rachel Auburn), the mixed night has gone from strength to strength. For their Festival special, however, they‘re really pushing the boat out. with guest sets from the Tldy Boys,

.. "pigerfif‘w [MGM M

i".

Keeping Britain beautiful: The Tidy Boys are the latest in a raft of guests at glam house night Oxygen, Sat 19 Aug

Trade‘s Fergie and Sundlssentlal regular Nick Rafferty as well as a shift of

venue to the more glamorous west end.

‘I‘m always slightly wary about playing in Scotland,‘ says Amadeus, one half of the Tidy Boys. ‘The last time we were up in Perth, Fergie was buying the drinks. and kept slipping me triples. I think I ended up lying on the floor

shouting into a microphone.’

We can only hope that the Tidy Boys‘ stop at Oxygen will include some hard house before the hard partying kicks in. Along with partner in crime Andy, Amadeus has spent the last five years concentrating on production and running the widely respected Tidy Trax imprint, home to hard house luminaries from UK Gold to Bulletproof. The last few months, however, have seen the Boys return to the decks. ‘It started off when we decided to tour to promote the Keep It Tidy album, and people just kept on phoning us up. l'm a firm believer in doing a bit of both - production and Dling - they balance each other out. Without the DJing it‘s hard to keep on track with production, and going back to the studio after a weekend of gigs is a good change of

pace!

As for future plans, the Tidy Boys have ambitions to move the hard house sound forward. ‘At the moment off-beat basslines and hoovers are the thing, and we‘re very conscious of the fact that hard house is in danger of becoming very formulaic, we're planning some stuff that's a bit left of centre, just to keep things moving.‘ (Jack Mottram)
