Danny Bhoy Pli’ihilllt‘t’. I—I7Aug. 9.15pm. What's in a naine'.’ Well. if you're called Danny Bhoy. a bit of hassle for a start. The Scottish comedian started as a stand-up two years ago iii London. and never really gave a thought to the reaction his stage name (apparently his grandmother's sumamc) might get north of the border. That soon changed. 'I did a gig in Glasgow} says Bhoy. ‘and a guy shouted out “()i. Bhoy ~ you Fenian". So l said “I‘d just like to stop the gig here and explain it‘s a family name. and it was (‘eltic with a hard (‘ long before it was (‘eltic with a soft (I and Scottish long before it was ('atholic. You diny orange bastard'"

The .‘yloflat-borii comedian has subsequently been a bit wary of the Scottish press. and is reluctant to get involved in the whole Rangers/Celtic thing. ‘l'm always very guarded in Scottish interviews.‘ he says. ‘I did aii interview with a guy from the Daily- Record last year. and he was very fucking short with me.‘

Bhoy exploded on to the comedy scene two years ago when he won the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award. Since then his routine has progressed from a ‘pretty shit‘ five-minute rant about the World (‘up to a much more rounded hour long show, but don't expect material about the beautiful game. ‘hi this year‘s show. I touch on the Scots in relation to sport. but I don't tackle football because it's a bit obvious.‘ (Doug Johnstone)
