'3 Roland Penrose Until Sun 9 Sep. £4 (£2.50) Joint admission with Lee Miller Exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art. Roland Penrose (1900—1984) was one of the key figures in the development of modern art in Britain. This major exhibition. which coincides with the publication of Roland Penrose: The Friendly Surrealist. a biography by his son Antony Penrose. reveals his work as a surrealist artist. exhibition organiser. collector and writer. Penrose was friends with a number of surrealists including Ernst. Miro and Picasso and was responsible for the first surrealist exhibition to come to London in 1936. To complement the exhibition. the National Gallery of Modern Art is hosting an exhibition of photographs by Penrose's wife. Lee Miller. See Hitlist. Paolozzi And Music Until Sun 28 Oct. As part of a series of displays from the Gallery‘s collection of Eduardo Paolozzi‘s work. a suite of nine screenprints entitled Calcium Light Night inspired by the work of innovative American composer. Charles Ives.

Josef Albers: Prints 1918-1976 Until Fri 21 Sep. German artist JosefAlbers was a leading figure in 20th century art. A one-time member of the German Bauhaus school. Albers used colour as a metaphor for relationships. Showing works from Homage to the Square in which concentric squares are laid on top of each other in diminishing scale. the works prefigured Op Art. Along with this series. lesser known works of photographs and photo-collages are also on show.
