The whole City was bathed in this lovely light and it was warm and sunny and we were staying in a flat on Leith Walk . . . and there was a pub open. We thought this was some kind of paradise. Xanadu. A (:astle. sunlight. a pub open."

1994: Rock “Me and Sean Lock did a show called Rock at the Pleasanee. It was a great fun show and nobody came to see it. I remember one night. Sean went out the front. and was about to start his warm—up when he said: "Oh for fuck's sake. Bill. come out here." I came out onto the stage. and there was one person in the audience and it was Dominic Holland.‘

1995: The Beergut Years ‘Beergut 100 was a punk tribute band that I got together with a few other comics. That was great fun seeing a stream of people guest with the band: John Hegley singing 'I'm a Roadrunner. John Cooper Clarke. Sean Cullen. That was also the year of my first solo show. I remember looking Out and there's all these comics and i.)rodu(:ers. and suddenly it was all a bit real. It had all gone horriny right'
