She may not have the flamboyance of big brother Rufus or the history of mom and pop Loudon Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle. but Martha‘s music has the drama to equal any of them. Despite her immersion in the world of music since birth. it took the Montreal-born singer/songwriter until she was 28 to get round releasing her first album. That eponymous debut was worth the wait. autobiographical and perhaps predictably folksy in places but also layered with brittle pop and darker. often vitriolic flashes.
