BOYS NOIZE This is the biggest club event of this year’s Edge Festival. German electro producer Boys Noize (aka Alexander Ridha) is a master of the kind of sparkling groove that builds to an epic electro-tech frenzy of acid squelches and heavy basslines. Founding his own Boysnoize Records in 2005 with releases from DIM, The Faint, Housemeister and Shadow Dancer, his debut album Oi Oi Oi was packed with dancefloor nuggets, leading to an enviable roster of remix work for everyone from Depeche Mode and Marilyn Manson to Cut Copy and Snoop Dogg. City: Edinburgh, 08444 999990, Thu 27 Aug, 10.30pm–5am, £18.

5QUESTIONS

It’s Bass Syndicate’s third birthday special, and they’re joined by a double bill of special guests. DJ Zinc (pictured) will be climbing out of his comfort zone for a special house set, while Hospital Records’ Cyantific supply the drum & bass. Resident/promoter (and proprietor of record store Underground Solu’shn) G-Mac gives us the lowdown

5 words to describe the Bass Syndicate experience? Bass-droppin’, beat-cuttin’, party-rockin’, crowd-smashin’ funhouse!

4 things you love about the DJs on the bill

Cyantific rockin’ drum & bass on three decks like no one else; ‘Super Sharp Shooter’ jungle legend Zinc switching to crack house shocker; Akira Kiteshi representing Edinburgh dubstep worldwide; fellow DJs Believe and Silver Storic battlin’ the breaks! 3 things you love about Edinburgh during the Festival

Cockburn Street buzz in the sun, international talent struttin’ their stuff, 5am clubbing . . . just like the ol’ days.

2 things you hate about Edinburgh in August

Underground Solu’shn is a music shop, not tourist information. And the smell. 1 thing you would change about the late-night festival scene

More music, less drunken comedy. Bass Syndicate, Faith, 225 9764, 11pm—5am, 22 Aug, £10 in advance (more on door).
