RANTING AND RAVING So apparently we’re not the only ones seeing shows at the Festival. Here are some reviews from the people this is all for you guys.

BRUSH C Nova Really enjoyed this piece. Young cast did well and great use of audio / visual. Worth seeing. Comment posted by Kelly the ticket

GREASE! theSpace @ Venue 45

Saw a preview of Grease today at the Festival the show was fantastic and great fun from the young cast from Portobello. Sold out on first day. They must have had a

good response to their preview on the High Street. Highly recommended. Great venue and friendly helpful team at Venue 45. Comment posted by The Mother of Bono

DIDO AND AENEAS St Cecilia’s Hall Absolutely enchanting and beautifully-sung

production of this short opera about the fateful love between the Queen of Carthage and Aeneas. The tale has been given a contemporary twist by the spirit of Finance. Plenty to amuse and delight everyone! Comment posted by SarahT

A GLEE INSPIRED: ROMEO AND JULIET C Katy Perry and William Shakespeare?! Yes, and it works! This was a super production of Romeo and Juliet. These kids can sing and they take Shakespeare seriously. They bring the story to life in a great way for kids / teens. My kids are listening to the Glee- inspired score on Spotify and still talking about the scenes. Go see it! CIRCA: WUNDERKAMMER Underbelly Bristo Square

Astonishing show, completely outstanding performances from the entire cast. Had us all enthralled throughout, I found myself with my mouth hanging open in disbelief most of the time. Gravity does not seem to affect the

performers as they move with the ease of Marvel comic characters. Years of CGI in movies have reduced most live performance to a pale sideshow, but Circa Wunderkammer demonstrate that nothing is quite so incredible as real people moving in an unreal way. Beautiful, sometimes understated, classy, irreverent, sexy,

outrageous but just simply brilliant. Best show I have ever seen. Comment posted by Andy Haldane

BEFORE WONDERLAND C A fabulous show! Amazing actors! Innovative characters played beautifully! Creative lighting and special effects unbelievable! What some might not attend, thinking it is only a children’s story, turns into magic in these actors’ hands. Bravo to their director who wrote this creative piece. Johnny Depp look out! COMPANY MAN C Not the best advertisement for work in a Japanese corporation, but surely funny. Sleek and well executed. You’ll never utter ‘juggling emails’ again without thinking of them. Comment posted by Kakimaturi

I BELIEVE IN UNICORNS Kids’ theatre company Wizard may not have blown the budget on their bribe, but they did display an impressive level of custom- made creativity. As well as a homemade pop-up unicorn (in a copy of the Michael Morpurgo book from which their show is adapted), we were given a song and short story, each written specially for List staffers. Awww. I Believe in Unicorns, Pleasance Courtyard, 556 6550, until 26 Aug (not 12), 11.45am, £7–£9 (£6–£8.50). See list.co.uk/bribe for our Bribe of the Week runners-up.
