always held strong amidst Scotland’s art school culture, and it seems to be booming within the context of the Edinburgh Art Festival as well. A fixture of the programme for some years now, and its expansion to two dates (Art Late North and South, the locations referring to roughly the area covered by these evening-long gallery tours, which are held in association with The List) will mean numerous one-off events, including a live performance of the music for Sarah Kenchington’s Wind Pipes for Edinburgh project, a live show by Edinburgh’s FOUND at the City Art Centre (both 15 Aug), a performance of Alan Bissett and Michael Pederson’s musical play Parley for Power and a show by Edinburgh hip-hop
‘We always programme performances to complement or contrast with the art on show, to offer audiences new perspectives on the work in the galleries,’ says Edinburgh Art Festival’s director Sorcha Carey. ‘When we programme musical performances, we really like to work with bands and musicians who are innovative in their genre and who demonstrate a great visual presence and interest in visual art, and FOUND and Young Fathers are great examples of that.
