MUSEUM AFTER HOURS: FRIDAY FRINGE TAKEOVER An evening of entertainment and festival revelry at the museum
H ome to an abundance of fascinating artefacts, objects and treasures, the National Museum of Scotland is a place where stories are uncovered every day. This August, keen festival- goers and museum ai cionados will come together to enjoy the museum’s many spaces and
galleries at night, in a series of events curated by The List every Friday.
Starting on Friday 12 August, After Hours will play host to a variety of specially chosen Fringe acts across three stages, from music to comedy and everything in between. The i rst event will see Melbourne Ska Orchestra bring their dynamic sound to the main stage, in a tribute to their ska inl uences. Meanwhile, Voices of Soweto: Ubuntu will be entertaining audiences with their musical offerings from South Africa, bringing together 25 singers, dancers, drummers and marimba players. For something a little different, SNAP will be on hand, wowing the crowd with their many tricks and illusions. The week after, expect a completely different set of acts and performers, including the sensational all-male cabaret show Briefs (pictured), which expertly combines circus, burlesque and drag. Tago: Korean Drum II will also be taking to the main stage, with their giant drums and infectious energy in tow. But the night doesn’t just offer great live entertainment; there are bars, street food vendors and ten recently opened galleries waiting to be explored. Guests will also be given entry to the museum’s major Celts exhibition, organised in partnership with the British Museum. (Arusa Qureshi)
