Black Picture Art: The Mezzotint Until 9 Jan. Mezzotint (from the Italian meaning half-tone) was a printing method used in the 18th and early 19th centuries as a reproductive medium particularly in book illustration. Currently enjoying a revival as a creative medium in its own right. the mezzotint is described and illustrated in this exhibition of work drawn from the Kelvingrove and Hunterian Art Gallery collections. and vicious looking herons. ‘I painted it in Amsterdam when i couldn’t cope with all the canals, junkies and pornography.’ Lys Hansen's garish ‘Stage Fright’, which was awarded the second prize, makes the proverbial butterflies in the stomach seem like huge moths, and Kirsty McGhie’s gigantic sharp teeth and raw gums sculpture, ‘A Touchy Subject’, is hardly more soothing. Some works, however, rellect a light-hearted, gentler approach, such as Adrian Wiszniewskl’s harvesticeiebration, ‘Brtnging in the Com' or Craig Peacock’s study at tish and pink toes, with the none-too-sertous tltie “Don't Go in the Water'.
