0 Cabaret Dance Night featuring The New York Pig Funkers and APB Ballroom. 10.30pm. £4 (£3). The audience gets a chance to let go with live appearances by two of Scotland‘s best purveyors of dance music. The New York Pigfunkers. actually from Edinburgh. have released one excellent single of irresistible rhythms which has drawn comparisons with the Go Go scene in Washington DC. APB. who have gained approval from none other than James Brown himself. hail from Aberdeen.

Premiere to Focus on Dance. The new piece is performed by Mary Ellen Ray and Sian Williams— a supple liquid dancer who interpets the ‘Kosh-style' dance theatre which often includes acrobatics with tremendous skill. Like ‘Telling Tales‘. ‘The Edge. explores a relationship. Their clue to the scenario is ‘Mother and daughter meet on a hill top. . .‘

Greg Nash works with Kate Dalton. a young dancer who is at home with his unique. flowing style. on a weekend project for young people of all ages and abilities. Gregory is well-known for his work with the community and has just finished a tour of‘Momentum Rush'. which involved groups from four cities. It was a superb example of high quality performance blended with the incredible energies of the untrained. shown in this case on video.

0 Tracey Hawkes and Catherine Ward: Spanish Dance (General) Edinburgh Suite. 9.3(l—li).3()pm. £2 (£1). Try out the various regional styles of Spanish dance from Sevillanas to Flamenco. Taken in easy stages. this class is open to everyone. Wear low-heeled shoes.

Bush’ Ballroom. 12pm. £2 (£1). Selections from the current ‘MOmentum Rush' programme and featuring the short piece ofwork devised by participants on the weekend residency.

o Astrakan (France): ‘Concours de Clrconstance' Ballroom. 8pm. £4 (£3). Another exciting import from Europe. Astrakan. is led by Daniel Larrieu who is described as one of the ‘most talented and innovative dancers currently working in France.‘ ‘Waterproof‘. his most recent success which is set in a swimming pool. will be shown in Edinburgh on video. The performance section of the programme will be made up of a series of duos and solos by the company of seven.
