The Faroese Association at Jazz Musicians has 70 members and iive or them will be playing Edinburgh on 4 May. Last week they sat in with Bobby Wishan in Glasgow’s Halt Bar. Sleipnir are led by alto saxophonist Brandur Dssursson and with Knud Wacher on trumpet, play an energetic and sophisticated music somewhat in the style of Cannonball Adderly, but touched by the surpringly varied contacts the Faroese have with visiting groups and musicians, and spells playing Denmark's top jazz venues.
No strangers to European concert halls are Buddy Guy and Junior Wells (see photo). Although the heyday of the touring jazz package has long gone,

I there can be detected some resurgence
of interest, with the likes of the Robert Cray band filling the halls and the enthusiasm torTed Hawkins. The partners are bringing a full-blooded electric band to add to their immensely confident guitar/harmonica/vocal style or Chicago blues.
Buddy Guy made his name alter a music ilyting when he outplayed Dtis Rush and Magic Sam in a ‘Battle of the Blues’ at Chicago’s Blue Fame Club in 1958. Junior Wells moved to the same city and joined the Muddy Waters Blues Band. The intermittent Guy/Wells partnership has been teatured in a tew tilms, and on many records, butthis is the first time on stage over here.
