Technically highly proficient. Kubrick’s film lacks a heart and soul and is definitely not the classic Vietnam statement one might have anticipated from the maker of Paths of Glory.

Based on the diaries of a pioneer woman this is a simple but highly effective story of a young widow who accepts a job as housekeeper to rancher Tom in the wilds of Wyoming around 1910 and the rigours they face. Glasgow; GET 0 Hearts of Fire (15) a (Richard Marquand. US, 1987) Rupert Everett, Fiona, Bob Dylan. 95 mins. It‘s disrespectful to speak ill of the dead but Marquand’s final film is a titter-inducing dog‘s breakfast, an every-cliché-under-the-sun rock ’n' roll romantic triangle between sensitive pop idol Everett, golden oldie Dylan and pert, aspiring star Fiona. Everett is characterstically inept, Dylan so laidback one is surprised to see him upright and Fiona doesn‘t fall over the furniture at least. Movies. don‘t ya just love ‘em.
