confrontational title iorthe tour. ‘Jesus is a Lie‘? Colin can only answerthat the new single ‘Jesus Loves Amerika‘ had been written tor a while beiore the McEwan's storm blew up. and the group were so incensed by Easter‘s

Christian postmark bonanza (‘A waste oi Post Oiiice money!‘)that they wouldn'ttonetheirmessage down.

‘Evangelisis are ourpet hatred. They're some oi the stupidest people on Earth. The song was actually written about experiences we had with them in Aberdeen. but the amount oi power they‘re getting in America is just terriiying.‘

Uniortunateiy. thanks to the imminent release oithe new Wedding Present LP on Red Rhino. the Shamen‘s second LP is to be delayed for a while. but the band‘s most recent music has brought something oi a hip-hop velocity to the sound. and ‘Jesus Loves Amerika' is their most successiul yet on that score. It sounds like The Shamen are iinding their ieet at last. (Mab)
