DUNFERMLINE’S DAY

The East at Scotland has a strong weekend at jazz/blues interest starting with guitarist and singerTaj Mahal's. see photo. visit to Edinburgh‘s Queens Hall on the 23d. The American bluesman brings with him his tunky Atro-Carribean intluenced band.

It is hoped that the One Day Jazz Festival in Dunlermline on Sunday 25th will become an annual event. Local enthusiasm has been high and a guest list ol the cream of Scottish players have given oi their services. The day‘s music is a testimony to the memory oi Jim Kyle. saxophonist brother at New York Jazz‘s drummerBill. who died suddenly last year. The Dunlermline

band that he played with kicks ot the afternoon's proceedings at 3pm in the beautitul Pittencriet Park Glen Pavilion and then. till 11pm. music runs continuously on two stages, one group setting up while the other plays. Negociations are well advanced to bring up some star names trom south of the border. notably a lamous Scots born jazz/rock guitarist, but at the time at going to press the running order is: 3pm. KB Big Band; 4pm. Jazzberry Jam. trumpet led mainstream; 5pm. Fat Sam‘s Band. entertaining swing and song; 6pm. John Rae Collective, best modern band to emerge in ages; 7pm. Bobby Wishart‘s group. saxophonist and Scotlands top jazz musician; 8pm. Carol Kidd Trio. Britain‘s leading lady at jazz song; 9pm. Tommy Smith Quartet. Internationally respected tenor star; and 10pm. the Tommy Samson Big Band to tinish oilthe night.

Bars and catering all day. Records and T-shirts on sale. Rattles. Children under15 tree. Admission atter 7pm £3. All Day Ticket £5. And there is tree jazz betorehand in a good number at local pubs. from 1-2.30pm. They are the King Malcolm Hotel. Queensterry Road; City Hotel. High Street; the Elizabethan. Halbeath Road; Barley Sheat. Aberdour Road; Thistle. Baldridgeburn; Noddy‘s Neuk. Touch; Cotters Bar. Rosyth; and the Cross Inn. Crossgates.
