hands is capable oi the most exquisite middle register tone. and although short on volume and penetration in ensemble passages. carries his solos perfectly. Having played across the spectrum with Mingus through to Grapelli. this Polish born all round musician is renewing his creative collaboration with reedsman Dick Lee's Swing ‘88 Big Band in Edinburgh onthe 11th. when the big band will leatureJanusz; trumpet and young local singer Sophie Bancrott in a programme at Dick‘s own compositions and classic American Swing. A separate sextet with Jimmy Feighan on vibes. Campbell Normand on piano andthe Swing ‘88 rhythm section with Kenny Mathieson will reconstruct the hallcentury old music at clarinettist Benny Goodman‘s small groups. using charts Dick has transcribed from the original hit recordings, and will again be joined lor some numbers by Carmello.
