NEWLY APPOINTED as Chairman of the Board of Governors of Filmhouse. Edinburgh District Council member George Kerrevan has announced a proposed expansion of facilities at the capital's centre of film culture. With the resealingof Cinema 2 set to go ahead within the next few months. the main auditorium will soon have 70mm projection equipment for high definition widescreen movies. and costings have been undertaken to transform the [Edinburgh Film (iuild‘s club room into a 3(l-seater Cinema 3.

While directorJim llickey no longer has a film festival to worry about (it has new directors). he plans a programming initiative that will include a season of films aimed at the city‘s ethnic audiences. a series of director‘s evenings beginning with the visit of Terry Gilliam on March Ill. and a move towards special events outwith the August fortnight (to which end Filmhouse will host cinematic complement to the forthcoming Science Festival).

With substantial business development about to transform the Lothian Road area both men identify the need to move forward into a new era with Filmhouse offering what Kerrevan called ‘a film festival all year round'.
