80 WIDE YOU CAN’T GET ROUND IT

Edinburgh can count itsell lucky to be so well provided with On UfTackhead events. The innovative label is without doubt the most relevant music being produced at the moment. This is reflected by the variety of clubs around town playing it—tunk clubs, punk/new beat clubs, rap clubs- reminding me of the transient abilities of such labels as Fetish in the early 80s.

War, initially implemented to provide us with true multi-media events, hosting Gary Ctail‘s On-U sound system. the Fini Tribe and Hitzer Ebb so far, has now expanded into a production unit enticing worthy bands further north than the usual English circuit (Mark Stewart and the Mattia again, possibly Lee Perry, and Front 242 the next time they are round). Equally the unit are olfering their technical abilities to people staging parties and clubs.

0n 1 and 2 April Tackhead descend on the Calton Studios sporting Bernard Fowler from the Peechboys playing a compulsive blend of tape manipulation and acute musicianship. The first night will be mostly older stuff with newer material on the second. The War visuals will of course be prominent— TVs, slides and use of the film projection screen left over from when
