The play isa collaborative effort by this actors' company and takes as its starting point the relationships between three women of different ages. While in sortie ways it isa celebration of courage. loyalty and spirit in the face of the Nazis. the play itiSOSIOpS to consider the divided loyalties and conflictsof interest that were the inevitable result of the German occupation of Paris. The play follows the course of events from the start ofthe occupation through to Hitler‘s defeat and the recriminations that followed. ‘lt culminates with the retribution ofthe French people.‘ explains producer and actorJacqueline Fox. 'there were actually more people killed in Paris by the French after the Nazis had left than by the Germans themselves.‘ While the French celebrate the bicentenary of the revolutiuon. Marianne is a timely consideration ofone of the darker periods in their history.
