Edmund QUARTET

Ever enterprising and imaginative, the Edinburgh Duartet's new summer series is in a new and rather unusual venue—the Main Hall at the Royal Museum 01 Scotland in Edinburgh‘s Chambers Street. Explaining some 01 the reasoning behind the choice, viola player Michael Beeslon says ‘It's a very exciting building, with a marvellous area to perform in. And it‘s very central and easy (or people to get to.‘ With programmes likely to appeal to both locals and summertourists, the series should prove popular. Beeslon describes the repertoire as “mainly mainstream classics‘, but in the lirst concert, on Wednesday 31 May, Scottish composer Robert Crawtord's Quartet No 2 is sandwiched between the tamiliar Beethoven 0p 18 N01 and Mozart‘s Dissonance. Later, on 21 June, there‘s Schubert, Britten and Beethoven‘s lirst Bazumovsky and in July, the programme opens with Haydn‘s Frog Quartet, lollowed by Mendelssohn and Beethoven‘s Op 135. (Carol Main)
