PAISLEY JAZZ FESTIVAL

In a lew weeks we'll have the second Dunlermline Jazz Festival, but belore that another 01 Scotland’s ancient burghs celebrates the music in a week long event, and all without recourse to visiting American trumpet players or French Dixieland outiits.

Palsley‘s bash is all-Scots, it you stretch the point to include Martin Taylor.

Now resident in Ayr, irom where he jets about the world, either as Stephane Grappelli's lavourite accompanist, oras an established jazz guitarvirtuoso in his own right, Taylor headlines the concert onthe 7th.

A Scotsman who many years ago made the opposite move south, to great acclaim and the continuing respect of his peers, is Tommy Whittle. Now in his early sixties he plays tenor horn with all the verve and accuracy of his days in the great Ted Heath band, and he takes the Monday concert in the highly professional company 01 the Sandy TaylorTrio.

Noted Glasgow s xophonist Bobby Deans wears ducal robes to lead his orchestra through an evening of Ellington on the 2nd, and the other Bobby, great saxophonist and big band leader, MrWishart leads the Strathclyde Youth Jazz Orchestra through their paces on the 10th.

Interested parties and instrumentalists wishing to tree themselves from the tyranny oi the dots and bar lines are invited to Stephen Coutts’ tree Jazz Workshop on Wednesday afternoon.

The Townhead Stompers at the Jazz Band Ball and the jump jive and swing of Fat Sam's Band in their own concert will have couples on the lloor, and tor the impecunious or sedentary there are tree, high quality lunchtime concerts in the Arts Centre venue all week.
