FRIDAYS

Glasgow

IJoy at the Sub Club. 11pm—3.30am. £3. Pulsating hottse rhythms. melodies. beats and basslines. Feel the heat as you dance your cares away in the ultimate busy. sweaty. sticky atmosphere.

I Radio City at the Mayfair (Cameo Suite). 10pm—3am. £1.50. Radio City has been quite a success story that seems to have gone unnoticed by most people. Populist they ain‘t. but if you're into late 60s' psychedelia and rock (and 80s as well) this is the best place. as countless Glasgow Uni students will also tell you.

I Shag at Fury Murrys. 11pm—3.30am. £1.50. 12in white label importsfrom Chicago at Shag are about as rare asa sighting of Mo Johnston in (ilasgow‘s pubs and clubs recently. Don't expect to see ‘super' Ally or any other football ‘stars‘ frequenting Shag as there will be no Luther Vandross or George Benson either! What there will be is pure lovable pop (especially early 80s) amongst an unpretentious. mixed. fun-loving crowd.

has just gone out oforbit. In its place is Defect. which looks like it won‘t be trying to compete with the Sub Club. but attract the student crowds. 1 like a varied playlist as much as the next man. but Deacon Blue. I Sub Club 11pm—3.30am. £4. lfBennets on a Tuesday is already a Glasgow institution. then the Sub Club on Saturdays isn‘t far behind. I 2 Hip and Mixed Up at Panamalax. 11pm—3.30am. £3 before midnight. £4 after. ‘2 Hip‘ for garage. funk. house and hip-hop. ‘Mixed Up’ for chart. soul and alternative. Two clubs running simultaneously.

I Tin Pan Alley 10.30pm—3.30am. £3.50. Hmmm . . .personally. l think £3.50 isfar too steep for a Sunday night and either TPAs advertising campaign hasn't worked or most people agree with me. as when l was there you could move around quite easily. shall we say. Predictable (but popular) thumping house failed to attract most people that were there from their drinks at the bar to the floor. sowhere now'.’

I Underground at Fury Murrys. 11pm—3.30am. £1. With entrance only a measly quid. Tequila Slatnmers at 50p. groovy funk. soul and disco from the 70s. effervescent Latin and the odd club classic from more recent times. you would think the Brown Paper Bag boys would be onto a winner. but no! When you should be fighting for space to dance (and air) it'sall too easy and the odd bad choice by the DJ clears the floor you know something needs to be done to add some atmosphere. but what? Answers on a postcard to Underground. c/o Fury Murrys . . .

Fandango promises to bring back both music and style for what was once one of the best nights forthe week-end ravers.
