RAMBERT DANCE COMPANY
Theatre Royal, Glasgow, run ended. Last week Glasgow was treated to a visit from the Rambert, who brought their eclectic programme to the Theatre Royal. In programme one, the dancers themselves were faultless, and able to match their skills to each choreographer. Having said that, some pieces suited the detached, bare style of the company betterthan others. Mary Evelyn's Calm was a clever study of interaction between four pairs of dancers, given an interesting dimension by Stephen Buckley's elemental design. However the piece lacked a cutting edge resulting in more of a study in improvisation, as it originally was rather than as a fully fleshed production.
Richard Alston's Hymnos was the most bizarre and modernist piece, it largely because oi Peter Maxwell Davies' uncompromising score.

Ingenious animalistic movement flushed the ditticult piece with lite, though the most powerful pieces were Siobhan Davies’ ingenious Sounding and Alston's visually arresting Strong Language.
The tormerwas a perfect combination of design and choreography as the dancers were spun round by Giacinto Scelsi’s music, shrunk into tiny ligures inside a box composed by three dimensional lighting effects. A iitting finale, Strong
