MUSIC LIST/ROCK

W Glasgow

I Three Esquire House, 1487 Great Western Road. 334 9491.

I Green Isaac Bell College, Hamilton. ‘The new Simply Red‘, they tell us. Decide for yourselves. Currently working with [an Morrow. who has just joined Trevor Horn‘s production team.

I The Kim Beacon Band Minstrels, Broomielaw, 204 3698. The former String Driven Thing singer was considered for a while as Peter Gabriel‘s replacement in Genesis. How different a world we might have been living in! No slouch as a songwriter either. Kim's ‘My Blues Have Gone‘ went absolutely mega forJune Pointer in 1981. Credentials Kim‘s got ‘em!

I Brian Kennedy King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut. 272 St Vincent Street, 2215279. Restrained songs perfectly suited for intimate venues. Brian‘s new single is out now.

I Big George and The Business The Shelter, 7 Renfrew Court, Renfrew Chambers, 332 6231. George switches on that heavy blues thang and piledrives contenders into the ground. One hell of a noise for a three-piece to make. Look around for their limited-edition Alleged Album.

I Wild Napoleons, 128 Merrylee Road, 637 5239. Fledgling Edinburgh pop band. I Bockhouse Halt Bar, 160 Woodlands Road, 332 1210. Unfortunately, due to contractual arrangements of the bands concerned. management can‘t announce who will be playing in advance. Let's just say big names from the Glasgow scene are expected.

I The Bunker Club Clyde Cavern, Clyde Place.

I Van Morrison Usher Hall, Lothian Road, 228 1155. See Tues 13.

I Shariot and The Rogues, Shadowland and Vatican Shotgun Scare Venue, Calton Road, 557 3073. £2 (£1.50). Showcase for three local bands of varying styles. All three have had increasing attention paid to them in recent weeks.

I Banacanteen Negociants, Lothian Street, 225 6313. 9.45pm. Free.

Ayr

I The Almighty Pavilion. These boys must ride down to the studio on their Harleys- and probably in formation - to get them in the right outlaw mood to sing lineslike ‘Satisfaction is my reaction' and ‘Some bitch told me that she was easy‘ over a stomping NWOBHM track. That‘s from The Almighty‘s new Power E P, and you‘re welcome to it.

SATURDAY 17 Glasgow

I The Kevin Mcoennott Orchestra Mayfair. 474 Sauchiehall Street, 332 3872. First of three nights for the local boy. Sec Preview.

I Michael Monroe and Stage Dolls Queen Margaret Union, University Gardens. 339 9784. Pretty boy, ex-Hanoi Rocks singer plays QM shock.

I Gun and The Right Stuti Barrowland. 244 Galiowgate, 552 4601. Leading lights in Glasgow‘s burgeoning heavy rock scene. Luckily their lyrics aren‘t as moronic as The Almighty‘s (only Ian Astbury‘s are). I Slide and The Whole Earth Strathclyde University Union, 90 John Street, 552 1895. A hard decision to make tonight , as both Slide and Gun are winning many new converts. Slide are the more mainstream of the two - in a Stonesy way sometimes- and get my vote.

I Hollow iiorse Blackfriars, 36 Bell Street, 552 5924. Interesting contemporary outfit. I The Woligang Fluii Experience Minstrels, Broomielaw, 204 3698. Ten-piece blues/Tamla aggregation.

Edinburgh

I Holocaust Moshpit, Venue, Calton Road, 557 3073. 6.30—10.30pm. They‘ve been around the Edinburgh scene for many years. but seemingly re juvenated, they‘ve made an LP, The Sound of Souls, which stands comparison with a lot of the thrash wave bands coming out of the States.

I Johnny Sunbeam Preservation Hall. Victoria Street, 226 3816. £1 after 9pm. Adroitiy-performed adult pop.

I Mercy Me Negociants, Lothian Street, 225 6313. 9.45pm. Free.
