Edinburgh

I Yngwie Malmsteen Playhouse Theatre. Greenside Place. 557 2590. 7.30pm. £7. £6. 1 gave up on Guitar Player magazine a long time ago. otherwise I would probably be able to describe in enormously technical detail the wonders that this Swedish heavy metal king can perform upon his fretboard. Don't forget to bend the A-string behind the nut while you‘re fretting the F with your index finger. Yng (always a tricky one in the thrilling midst of 3000 Michael Schenker fans).

I The Soup Dragons Network. West Tollcross. The new Soup Dragons LP sounds a hell of a lot more on the ball than their previous album. This is ourArt. Using sampled drum sounds. they‘re exercising a greater flexibility. and on tracks like ‘Softly’ show they can turn their hands to slower material very effectively. My hopes for this gig are a lot higherthan they were before I heard the album. The Soups also playing Strathclyde University on Fri 20.

I Kitsch and The Nightset and Moon Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. What went wrong with our Moray House date‘.’ The Nightset ask. Nerves. probably. and too many people with inflated expectations thinking they were coming to see a make-or-break showcase gig. We wish them a more relaxed show this time. Moon can apparently boast the former singer from The Questions sharing vocals with a ballerina and backed by some Pigfunkers' remnants. Groovy. We hope.

I Comedy of Errors Preservation Hall. Victoria Street. 2263816. 9.30pm. Free. I 0i Polloi Globe. West Port. 2294553. 9.30pm. Free. Edinburgh punk stalwarts. still at it. Makes you want to give them a big hand. or even go and see them.
