with ‘respectable' venues. Highlight of their set must surely be ‘Shaggy shagged Velma' their tribute to ‘those meddlesome kids‘ from that seminal catalogue of American teen angst ‘Scooby Doo‘.

THURSDAY 9

Glasgow

I We Free Kings King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut. 272A St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 10pm. £3. Having watched the seven Paris Angels jostle for space on the King Tut‘s stage. it should be interesting to see how the more mobile We Free Kings fare. I should imagine their enthusiastic folky approach will win through handsomely on the night, however.

I The Prayers and The Fianccs The Demo Disco. Traders, Glassford Street, 552 5826. 9.30pm. Free. Afterabrief sabbatical, the demo disco is back. Yet another chance for bands to get all their friends along to vote for their tape. Kicking things off (so to speak) are those delicate lads The Prayers. ably supported by renowned Edinburgh nutcases The Fiances.

I The Humii Family and W.O.W. Studio 55. Bruce Hotel. Cornwall Street. East Kilbride. 035 522 9771. Humff Family shindigs are ideal for beer-swilling. dosey-doeing and other dubious-sounding activities. Wallflowers beware - they can whip the most retiring of creatures intoa dance-crazed euphoria. W.O.W. , pn'mc exponents of the odious ‘Glasgow sound‘, are a safe bet for keeping posteriors on seats.

I Jennifer Fever The Shelter. 7 Renfrew Court. 332 6231. 10pm. Free. The Shelter continues to present bands with extremely nice equipment and only a snowball in hell‘s chance of remaining in the memory for longer than three seconds.

I Zydeco Ceilidh Band Halt Bar. 160 Woodlands Road. 332 1210. 9pm. Free. The name says it all.

I The Ruby Still King's Court. 7 Osbourne Street. 552 2250. 10pm. Free.

I Hollywood Outhouse. 1155 Cathcart Road. 6490184. 9pm. Free. Pop cover

I Live Music Minstrels. 66 Broomielaw. 204 3698. 9.30pm. Free. Henceforth to be known as ‘the ubiquitous live music‘.

I Big George and the Business The Studio, 12 Shuttle Street. Paisley. 8896867. 9.45pm. Free. Residency.

I Billy Mclsaac and the Other BrotherThc Alhambra. 31 Waterloo Street. 221 3260. 8pm. Free. Residency.

Edinburgh

I Sons Oi The Shaking Earth Stag‘s Head Hotel. South Quecnsferry. 9pm. Formerly Lixx. they‘ve swapped their glam-rags for a more ‘straight‘ approach. A good rockin‘ band. as they say.

I Pele Bowie Band Preservation Hall. Victoria Street. 226 3816. 9.30pm. Free. Bluesy and rocking.

I Kitchen Devils Negociants. Lothian Street. 225 6313. 9.30pm. Free. There‘sa joke in there somewhere.

I Las Filipinas BB's Basement Bar. Barony Street (off Broughton Street). 556 8420. 5—7pm. 8—1 1pm. Free. See Fri 27. I Tommy Beavitt Queen Street Oyster Bar. Queen Street. 226 2530. 9.30pm. Free. See Thur 2.
