The undefeated joint leaders of the Third Division take on the big boys from the First. for whom Donald MacFarlan has been in inspirational form this season. Prayer mats will be out at the Stockbridge club in an effort to inspire the return of Syd ‘Elvis‘ Reid. a prodigiousif erratic talent with either guitar or hockey stick.

Inspired by the success oftrainer Gordon Richards. they will have a ‘Beat The Trainer' contest. Rather than this consisting of furious punters swinging punches at the men in trilby hats. it means that each trainer gets so many points per race. depending on the placing ofhis horses. then. after the seventh race. the trainer who has accumulated the largest total of points wins. As a further incentive. the sponsors are offering £7000 to anyone who beats Gordon Richards they must have lost a few quid on him in the past. Anything to keep the punters‘ money flooding in.
