I The Hothouse Flowers and Maria McKee Barrowland. 244 Gallowgate. 552 4601. SOLD OUT. The original raggle-tagglers return to sell-out adulation to remind everyone what the fuss was all about in the first place. Powerful folk-influenced rock. tinkling ivories. gravelly vocals. the works. Miss McKee’s presence will be a welcome extra bonus for Flowers‘ fans. given her own American folk roots and her recent desire to absorb the Celtic influences of her chosen home in Ireland.

Printing. 60 North Hanover Street. 331 1355. Only Scottish show for Tortelvis and his dreads an experience not to be missed. The feeling was that an American band playing reggae versions of Led Zeppelin songs while being fronted by a bloated Elvis impersonator would have only the most limited novelty appeal. but interest in the Dreads has shown no sign of abating. Don't have too much fun. y‘all. I UK Subs Rooftops, 92 Sauchiehall Street. 332 5883. 10pm. Are they still around? Well you know what they say-

old rockers die hard. But will they soon be moving into the lucrative field ofcover versions. as exemplified by The Stranglers? The phrase ‘hoary old punks‘ slips readily to mind as well. for some reason.

I Loud and The Waking Hour Videodrome. 33—39 York Street. 221 0441. 8pm. £2.50. Loud are picking up interest and a following around the country from their simple personnel connection with New Model Army. Support comes from local goth band The Waking Hour.
