1 1pm-3am. £3 (£1.50student). Rare groove. soul and bass dance night building up quite a following. Watch out for drinks promos.

I icon at the Sub Club. 11pm—3.30am. £3.50. Replacingtheir long-runningand highly successful Joy. icon is the brave new hope for the Slam crew which they‘re hoping will make a name for itselfwith a slightly more ‘disco‘-based house style. but don‘t worry. I‘m sure they don‘t mean The Village People. Lots ofbig-name guest DJs.

I The Onion Club 7pm— 1 am. £2. 8 March only. Fourth in a series of irregular clubs in an as yet uncharted venue. Playing psychedelic. garage. soul. beat. R&B. northern soul. indie and 90s dance that only leaves classical. reggae. calypso. heavy metal and rockabilly. doesn‘t it'.’ Maybe next time I Radio City at the Mayfair (Cameo Suite). l0pm—2.30am. £2. Sixties rock merging surprisingly well with 90s rave. with the odd dance record thrown in too. I Bumble at Joe Paparazzi. 11pm—3.30am. £3.50 (£1 .50student). The only problem with Rumble is that it'sso dark. so big and so popular that ifyou're hoping to see friends there you really have to arrange it well in advance. Personally. I

1. Cross The Tracks: Maceo and The Macks. I got this on bootleg in London. It was massive in the early lresh days and opened my ears to the rare groove sound.

2. Black Riot: Rhythm Is Rhythm. I introduced these two records on American import. They were the first Pre Acid/Techno House Records.

3. Kraze: The Party. This was the turning point in club history. I had just returned from Ibiza Summer of Love, and introduced Acid to Scotland.

I Club Mandela at Maryhill Community Central llalls. 8pm—lam. £3 (£1 .50). 9 March only. Monthly benefit forthe anti-apartheid movement with the Unity Reggae Disco. playing mostly familiar raga. rap. African. soca and dance tracks in a warm and friendly atmosphere a roomful of people shouting along to Arrow‘s ‘l lot Hot llot' in the middleof winter for a good cause is enough to warm anyone‘s heart.

take the place of Burnout. playing agood selection of indie dance faves in congenial atmosphere could fill a sorely needed gap on a Saturday night.
