Following the huge success of Candide and Street Scene Scottish Opera continues its exploration into American music theatre with the European premiere ofMarc Blitzstein’s Regina.
Based on Lillian Hellman’s play The Little Foxes, Regina is set in Alabama in the 1900’s and charts the destructive effect of _; financial power on the Hubbard family.
Regina, a woman utterly ruthless in her pursuit of power. openly admits that she is the most important thing in her life, that she values things more than people - the most terrifying heroine since Medea.
Hailed as one of the most successful operas ever to come outof ‘ America. the score incorporates a variety of music styles including jazz. blues and ragtime.
