i West (Cleopatra’s), selects some oi the 1 tracks you’re likely to hear him playing

= at any oi his nights.

5 The ilrst band that I ever felt like dancing to. Surely Levi’s are joking

TURNTABLE

The lovely Dave Ross, sell-styled Don Corleone oi the Glasgow clubscene, and DJ at Crash (The Cotton Club),

1. Sex Pistols: Pretty Vacant

i

when they say ‘Anarchy’ is the music tortheir next ad. . . .?

2. Rolling Stones: Sympathy For The Devil

The live version is a club anthem to a couple ol hundred oooh, ooohers (pardon me? - Ed) at Crash.

3. Spirea X: Speed Reaction

At long last a Glasgow band that doesn’t have that ’Glasgow band scene’ tag. Bloody brilliant.

4. Aretha Franklin: Respect

I could have a number at things from Otis, Arthur Conley, Isleys, but the lyrics and attitude made me choose this one.

5. James: Come Home

Great pop music that you can dance to without the typical contrived Manchester dance thing.

P.S. Atop 5 is iusttoo short! I leel aggrieved about forgetting/excluding Abba, Adam Ant, Soul Ii Soul, S’Express. . . (Enough. We get the idea - Ed.)

11pm—3am. £2.50 before midnight/£3 after. From 1 June. ‘Disco me to ecstacy‘. Emm. . . yes. well. With a logo likethat you might have guessed that Bootsy was involved. You‘d be right. Soul. funk and disco with the man himself— plus friends. Taking over where the popular Galaxy left off. but no doubt it‘ll be just as busy before long.

I Wheels at The Mission. 11pm—3am. £1.50 before midnight/£2.50 after. A nightmare on Victoria Street? Quite possibly. Also a rock night.

I Wildllie 1 June and fortnightly. Some people still know how to have a good time - you can number Fred. Neil and Amanda amongst those. Their intimate one-nighter has an after-hours atmosphere which is more like a party than any usual club.due to the clued-up city crowd its retrospective funk. soul and disco attracts. The location is still ‘sccret‘; but ifyou don’t know where it’s at. then you shouldn't be there anyway. Okay?

I XS at Wilkie House. 11pm-3.30am. £3. 1 June and monthly. Following an attack of the gremlins at their last event. the Sex Beat and Dream crew promise no problems this time just a night not to be missed. With a new soundsystem. lights by Chaos. and guest DJs Carole and Adrian

current dance and indie-dance sounds to a predominantly student crowd. The music may not be balearic. but their attitude certainly is it‘s a case ofanythinggoes. Always worth a visit.

I Messenger iii-Fl Sound System at Moray liouse. 9pm—3am. 23 May. Ragga. roots. lovers and heavyweight dub that‘s quality reggae to you and me. plus a BIG sound system and cultural MC. Not the only club ofits kind in Edinburgh. but undoubtedly the most upfront. Check it out.
