EDINBURGH Fridays

I Cathouse at Shady Ladys. 10.30pm—3am. £2.50/£2 with flyer. From 12 July. Sorry folks, this does have a connection with the Glasgow club of the same name, contrary to my info last week, ie it’s run by the same nice wee man, plays the same up-to-date rock and glam, plus has r’raught and spirits at the same ridiculously cheap price of only £1.10. Glad that‘s sorted out.

I Dateless/Crumble at The Mission. 10.30pm—3am. Some confusion exists as to what to call this, but basically it‘s another club of the same persuasion as Shag ie. lots of bad-taste good-time party music. I think you really have to be in the mood. Or deaf.

I Ital at Liberty‘s. 10pm-3am. £2.50. 12 July only. Scotland‘s original reggae club

begins to woo back its followers aftera long absence. Whether you‘re a natty dred or baldhead. their selection of roots. lovers. revives. dee-jay and dance is bound to get you going. I Marley’s Reggae Klub at Network 2. 10.30pm—4am. £2. Another reggae night (as ifyou couldn‘t guess), still running after an incredible 13 years. Can be alittle retrospective at times, but nevertheless always busy. I Madison's Rock Night 9pm—3am. £2. Pretty self-explanatory this one. I Messenger iii-Fl Sound System at Moray House. 9pm—3am. Ragga, roots, lovers and heavyweight dub that‘s quality reggae to you and me. plus a big soundsystem and cultural MC. Not the only club of this persuasion by any means, but by far the most hard-edged. I Millionaires 10pm—6am. £2 before 2am, £3 after. Favourite late-night hang-out of clubbers, club runners and those who just won‘t go to bed. Dark, crowded and unbelievably tacky, but stillfabulous. See News for details of recent changes. I Pure at The Venue. 11pm—4am. Members and Guests only. With a bpm count higher than the US budget deficit, it‘s not hard to see why this has earned a reputation as Edinburgh's finest dance club of late. Surely several hundred ecstatic revellers can‘t be wrong? I Scream at Calton Studios (downstairs). 11pm-4am. Laid-back. spaced-out 60$ sounds, with a wee bit of80s and 9()sdancc thrown in for good measure.

I Shall at Moray House. 10pm—3am. £2.50. 12Jul only: Yup. it‘s that 70s revival stuff again. Platform soles. hipsters, body glitter - you know the score. Time to get funky.

I Tattoo at the Designer Frames Gallery.

10.30pm—late. £2.50. A new twice-weekly club run by former Dream team member [an Allison. presenting dressed-up dance to a discerning crowd. Well worth a visit. I Buster Browns l().3()pm—3.3()am. £1.50 before 11.30pm./£3 after.

I Blue Oyster Club 10.30pm—4am.

I Chaplins at Finsbury Park. 11pm-4am. £2.

I Networkt 10.30pm—4am. £1 before midnight/£3 after.

I The Red Hot Pepper Club lOpm—4am. £2.50 before 1 1.30pm/£3.50after.

Saturdays

I Calton Studios (downstairs) Just don‘t ask me what the Calton Studios Saturday night club is called this fortnight , because nobody has a clue. Well. 1 certainly don‘t, and 1 don‘t think they do either. Still. whatever the title, it‘ll undoubtedly be playing upfront techno for Edinburgh‘s hip kids.

I Ketch at Shady Lady‘s. llpm—3am. £2. The only regular Saturday night indie club, attracting a motley assortment of mop-top student types for itsintelligent selection of current and crossover tracks. I Lacuana Read at Calton Studios (upstairs). £2.50/£2. 13 July and fortnightly. At last my question has been answered! The name of this club means, wait forit. . . precisely nothing arall. Strange people. ‘Anyway. if you venture along expect hard left indie sounds,
