guitar pop when they played together recently. Take the sussed grunge popof Teenage Fanclub and the onstage anarchy of Blur and you‘re halfway to realising what a joyful adolescent mess they make. As a whole they exude the same cocksure attitude as White Out and there‘s even a cracking cover version of ‘Our Lips Are Sealed‘ to prove they really know their pop music. Do yourself a favour and take a drink at the Fixx tonight.

I Clockwork Orange Rooftops. Sauchiehall Street. 332 5883. £2. Weird synth music betraying an early 80s hang-up (but Kraftwerk they are not).

I Paris Angels Dugout. (.‘athcart Street. Greenock. 0475 27918. The debut album Sundew surprised a lot of people with its straight. no frills approach to pop. where the preceding singles had been all grooves and busy effects. The Paris Angels put it down to maturity: others put it down to the fact that everyone‘s had their fill ofchcesy indie-dance. Either way it leaves things wide open for the Paris Angels. although I strongly suspect that live they‘ll be as manic and danceable as they were a year ago.
