Assembly Direct commissioned Tommy to form a six-piece group and write the music for it. allowing him to compose for a wider range ofjazz instruments than in the past. Major interest will focus on the combination of Tommy and Steve Williamson on saxophones. and on the return ofJason Rebello to the piano chair he occupied so excitineg in Tommy‘s quartet. Trumpeter Guy Barker (replacing the advertised Gerard Presencer). Illicit Hutton on bass. and drummer Jeremy Stacey complete a formidable line-up. The band will record a new Blue Note album. and will continue to work as a special project alongside Tommy‘s regular band. while Assembly plan similar projects with other Scottish musicians.
