The ideal vacuous escape for those who‘ve had enough of roek‘n’roll and want a dose of superficial glamour. But please no cheap jokes at the expense of Lisa's northern upbringing. chuck.

I Bomb Everything, Filigree Sun and Hung Like ATadpoIe Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. Or Bomb Iiurodisney. as we now feel an almostuncontrollable urge to call them. Crotch-level grunge-rock. with support from Falkirk's Filigree Sun. In the case of I lung Like A Tadpole. might be a good idea not to study that crotch-level too carefully.

I The Lost Soul Band and Pure Blind Panic Venue. Calton Road. 557 3073. Three strong. mainly local gigs tonight. and most will probably pick this one. After putting the final touches to their debut Silvertone album. The Lost Soul Band have pronounced themselves ready to go back on the road. Melodic. acousticrbased and soulful. with a jolt of manic electricity from Pure Blind Panic.

I The Receiving End Bertie‘s. Merchant Street. 225 2002. 10pm. Free. Asthe perpetrators of the really rather good CD EP "I‘hat‘s The Way 1 Operate‘ (Trend Records). this lot from Kirkcaldy can truthfully claim major record company Interest.

I The Mutiny Strings and Ian Stewart Garbage And Honey Club. Subway. Cowgatc. 225 6766. Whether rattling along like an express train or laying down powerful swathes ofsustained guitar. The Mutiny Strings have grown immenser since their early demos. Support Ian Stewart is said to be a one-man show that might call to mind Billy Bragg but forthc former’s habit of delivering the occasional ode.

I Kettlelish Negociants. Lothian Street. 225 6313. 9.30pm. Free.

WEDNESDAY 17

I The Rollins Band and The Beastie Boys Barrowland. (iallowgate. 552 4601. 7.30pm. £7.50 plus booking fee. Tickets from Just The Ticket. Virgin. Union Street. 226 4679. Like pairing Silence of the Lambs with Wayne's World. but it takes all sorts. The imposing demeanour ofmusclebound harbinger from hell Henry Rollins is only compounded by the dark aggression infusing the Rollins Band's hardcore sound. The Beastie Boys meanwhile have just emerged from suspended animation and seem as gawky

and crudely adolescent as ever.

I The Olives and Fiaere Nilssen Apollo, Renfrew Court. 332 6231. 9pm. Free. Folk rock.

Stereolab, featuring ex-members of McCarthy and The Chills plus current members of Moose and Th' Faith Healers. fashion lazy. dreamy pop mostly round the one chord. yet despite sticking to such a simple structure have managed to come up with some of the most distinctive sounding records of the past year.
