Gershwin, Hines, and others, as part of the R50 Scottish Proms. l‘m normally allergic to this kind ofthing, but Dankworth does it better than almost anyone, retaining a genuine jazz feel while making expert use of the orchestra.

The East Coast Jazzmen with Fionna Duncan are at the Stakis Earl Grey Hotel on Mon 8. with guitarist Gary Doyle’s Triple Echo and Mike Trevis’s EH15 at The Rep on Tue 9. Blues giant Jimmy Witherspoon is at The Rep on Wed 10 to celebrate the launch of his new album. The Blues, the Whole Blues and Nothing But The Blues. on the new indigo blues label, followed by contemporary jazz from Stan Tracey's Hexad on Thurs l 1, and Carol Kidd on Fri 12.
