High profile anti-whaling actions are not Greenpeace’s only concern. On the east coast they will be launching a new campaign against ‘industrial‘ fishing. Over a quarter of all the fish in the North Sea are removed every year, 60 per cent of these by industrial fishing. This is intensive fishing for species which are not used for human consumption. but for industrial processes. Scottish fishermen are overwhelmingly opposed to this type of fishing. according to Greenpeace, as it affects commercial fish stocks and is detrimental to the fishermen’s livelihood.
