I Supernova. The Receiving End and Sea Monkey Adam Smith Theatre, 0592 260498. £3.50. Three of the best guitar bands that Fife has to offer. all in one place at the same time. Anyone in the vicinity should seriously consider dropping in on this one.

SUNDAY 25 Glasgow

I WASP Barrowland, Gallowgate, 552 4601 . 7.30pm. £10 plus booking fee. Tickets from Just the Ticket, Virgin, Union Street. 226 4679. Metal travesty about as dangerous and likely to shock as The Sundays' comeback single, but the kids love them anyway.

I Gil Scott-Heron Tunnel, Mitchell Street, 2041000. 11pm. An opportune time for the newly-cleaned-up Gil Scott-Heron to stage his British reappearance, what with him being cited as a primary influence on The Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy. Even when his career was sliding downhill in the 805, he put on some excellent Scottish shows. Hopefully, his blend of jazz. funk, rap and social commentary will find enthusiastic record support again.

I The Bookingblrds and Bad Livers King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut. St Vincent Street. 221 5279. 9pm. £4.50. See preview forThe Rockingbirds. Support The Bad Livers set the tone with bluegrass covers of the likes of Nirvana and Motorhead.

I The 25th 0t May and Circle Dane Cathouse, Brown Street, 248 6606. 8pm. £4. Wrong month but who‘s counting? The brattish vigour of EMF combined with the Preachers‘ polemic, The 25th OfMay make as many enemies as friends with their agitpop.

I The Ex and Tom Cora Glasgow School of Art, Renfrew Street, 332 0691. 7pm. £4. Students and guests. See Sat 24.

AOR softies with a faithful following inhabiting a world of their own. The rest of the sentient universe needn‘t bother. Support from the Edinburgh group currently appearing on the Gathering of the Clans CD.

I Adorable and Strangelove King Tut‘s Wah Wah Hut, St Vincent Street,221 5279. 9pm. £4. Despite arriving in a blaze of press glory, Adorable are doing a pretty good job of making pedestrian indie plod with some palatable shimmery guitar over the top to disguise their utter normality.

Strangelove. as you would expect from ex-members of The Blue Aeroplanes and Levitation, make intriguing doodles round pop‘s margins.

I Wishbone Ash Arts Guild Theatre, Campbell Street, Grecnock, 0475 23038. 7pm. £10. Early 70$ favourites on the student circuit does this make them the Ned‘s Atomic Dustbin of their time?

TUESDAY 27 Glasgow

I Metalllca SECC, Finnieston Quay, 248 3000. £15 plus booking fee. Tickets from Just the Ticket, Virgin, Union Street, 226 4679. A few seats left. If Metallica really do play a three-hour set, then this is not a concert, it's the ultimate test of their fans‘ endurance capabilities. Take a book for the drum solos, but no blinking during the pyrotechnics, both visual and musical.

I AC Acoustics The Dunny, Bogle Stone, Glassford Street, 553 1638. 9pm. Free. Consistently impressive local band with a cut-and-thrust set of songs.

I Reverend Drown And The Early Birds Curlers, Byres Road, 334 1284. Gutsy blues and power-shanties from the string-shredding Rev and crew, who are now making the journey from the Midlands to Central Scotland often enough to qualify as commuters.

I Glasgow Songwriters leeturlng Greg lit Blackfriars, Bell Street, 552 5924. 9.30pm. Plus the incredibly popular open platform.

Edinburgh

I The Temptations and The Three Degrees Playhouse Theatre, Greenside Place, 557 2590. 7.30pm. £19.50, £17.50, £15. Enough Greatest Hits to make up a full show, without the need for fillers. ‘Papa Was A Rolling Stone‘, ‘You‘re My Everything‘, ‘Get Ready‘ . . . all givena poignant air, no doubt, by the death earlier this month of former singer Eddie Kendricks. Support, The Three Degrees, felt fame slip away from them the moment their number one fan Prince Charles switched his affections to Lady Di. And, it has to be said, have been rarely missed since.
