Department of History and Applied Art

Applications are invited for the post of Curator (i in the Department of History and Applied Art. This is a period appointment for two years.

The posthoider will assist in the general duties of the Department, including record keeping. handling and packing objects, dealing with enquiries and supervising visitors. The Department has premises in and around Edinburgh and at New Abbey, Dumfries and the

postholder will work at different locations as required.

Candidates should have SCE or (ECE ‘0' grades or equivalent with A. B or C passes in English and at least three other subjects. Neat handwriting and accurate spelling are essential and a clean driving licence would be an advntage. This is a physically demanding job. Salary —- Starting salary between $7,146 and £11,766 according to qualifications and experience with further annual increases subject to level of performance. Drumchapel Initiative whishes to appoint a Youth Development Officer to work with young people in the area. The post is an important element in the Initiative’s strategy for the regeneration of Drumchapel and the postholder will be a person of exceptional ability at senior worker level who will face the considerable challenge of co-ordinating and facilitating the variety of youth work agencies already active locally as well as developing new stnictures and approaches.

The Person must be outgoing. flexible and adaptable. She/he will have a thorough grounding in work with young people. be suitably qualified. have occupied a similar position of responsibility and be familiar in genera terms with local government structures and other youth agencies. However. the person will not be operating within a departmental structure and such a background is not required. The person must be interested in and committed to improving the quality of life of young maple in Drumchapel and a knowledge of the area orsimilar would be a distinct advantage.

The Postholder will answer directly to the Drumchapel Initiative Management Committee and the Initiative Director. Though not a local government post, conditions of service will be similar. The post will run for at least three years. depending on funding and the targets set for the first year being met.
