Union Street. 226 4679. The prim Ms Hatfield gives nothing away with her demeanour but the oft- intriguing lyrics of her wistful jangly songs are teasing in their truth-or-fiction ambiguity. However. live it's no party. Passion Fruit And Holy Bread take their name from a line in ‘She Bangs The Drum‘ and are mooted as the midpoint between Suede and Verve. Their ‘Crush' demo upholds this with its wall of guitars and character.

Catherine Wheel weave an erratic brand of fiery lingering guitar. but can do no wrong with their set-stormer Black Metallic. The ACs are a Glasgow band. now signed with Elemental Records and reported to sound not unlike Teenage Fanclub wading in sludge.

He plays blues and boogie woogie piano, and has been doing so for about 25 years with a staggering variety of big names. John Lee Hooker. Muddy Waters. Chuck Berry . . . the man has appeared on over eighty albums. He knows his way around a keyboard, l'll bet.
