I Russell Gowieson Quintet The 13111 Note. 80 Glassford Street. 887 4733. 9.30pm. £4 (£3). The young saxophonist from Dunoon has clearly imbibed deeply of the classic tenor saxophone sound pioneered by the likes of Ben Webster. and uses that full. rich sonority to good effect. The quintet includes trumpeter Colin Steele (best known for his work in the John Rae Collective) alongside Andrew Gordon on piano. and an experienced rhythm section of Ronnie j Rae on bass. and Tony McLennan on

Saxophonist Bobby Wishart leads a young band (see Sun 31) and special guest Jackie Murray on trombone and vocals in this inaugural gig of a new Monday night series at The Tron. The idea. according to Ziggy Zigman. who is organising the gigs. is to mix the generations of players in Glasgow. and he is starting off with the right man in Wishart. There is nothing scheduled for Mon 1. but there is a full programme for the rest of November. including a regular pool-style session. and an informal ‘Blow Band‘.
