JAZZ MUSIC

House. 7 West George Street. 227 551 1. 12.45pm. £3.50 (£3). Another fusion of jazz and folk from this now well- established duo. The polite atmosphere here may not be the ideal one for their music. but against that. they are often heard to best advantage without the extra bolstering of the rhythm section they usually employ.

FRIDAY 26 Edinburgh

I Phil Bancrott’s Big Sheebang Queen‘s Hall. Clerk Street. 668 2019. 8.30pm. £7.50. £6 (concessions £4 on door). Phil Bancroft is one of the most familiar and most widely admired players on the current jazz scene. but his dual commitment to medical studies (now safely stowed away under his belt) has meant that we have not had the chance to hear him lead a project of his own. That lack is now remedied with this quintet. ! and if there is a familiar look to the strong line-up. with his John Rae Collective stablemates Kevin MacKenzie on guitar and Brian Kellock on piano. plus twin brother Tom on drums alongside bassist ' Steve Watts. all past form indicates that there will be more than a few surprises in 1 the music itself. A one-off for the moment. this is not to be missed.
