PLEASURE is our motto

Michael Clark investigates the fine line between pain and pleasure. The Michael Clark Company perform ‘0’ at the Festival Theatre on Friday 29 july.

From grand opera to ragga, Edinburgh Festival Theatre will present a year-round festival of the excellent and the extreme, on the biggest and best equipped stage in Britain.

Seventy distinct productions - including Kronos Quartet, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, equestrienne Rose English and her stallion, and the dress for pleasure flamboyance of the Festival Ball - will be staged in the main auditorium in the first six months alone. The late-night cabaret stage will present entertainments of a more intimate nature. The Festival Theatre's cafe, corridors and

bars will once again vibrate with the kind of hedonistic behaviour for which its predeces- sor, the Empire Theatre, was renowned, and frequently raided, in the I8905. A splendid time is guaranteed for all.

Our free 96 page top shelf colour magazine, with explicit details of our June-December programme, will shortly be available all over Scotland, and will be
