Pianist Flush hails from the north-east of England. but is based in Edinburgh. although he does most of his playing away from home. This is a chance to redress that balance with a trio which forms three-quarters of the band Full Circle (set for a re-launch later this year with fourth member Rick Taylor on trombone). and they will play a set of original tunes. mostly by the pianist.

Chiefatttong singer Fionna Duncan’s ‘friends‘ on the night will be moothie-rnan Fraser Spiers. which suggests that there will be more than a little hard-driving blues alongside the jazz standards in the set.

The Edinburgh Jazz Orchestra are a fully-fledged jazz big band with an imaginative set of arrangements of modern jazz material. frorn Kenton and Basie through to Monk and Miles. The band. led by saxophonist Bob Peters (they used to be known as the BP Big Band). begin a Monday-night residency in the Traverse Bar tonight.

The Chris Barber Jazz and Blues Band has become an institution in British jazz circles. but this anniversary date will turn the clock back to re-unite the original line-up of the band from their formation in 1954. The bill will also include a skiffle group with Lonnie Donegan. and the current CBJ & B Band.

Now a well-established Bank Holiday attraction on the Clyde. the 7th festival spreads its wings a little this year with the inclusion of Andy Sheppard. both a bigger and a more modernist name than is usual in this programme. For the most part. though. the music comes in more traditional styles. from the New Orleans and swing tojurnpjive and bop.
