When Snowflake. mascot of the Miami Dolphins. goes missing. there's only one man for the job - Ace Ventura. a cross between Phillip Marlowe and Dr Doolittle. Another American TV comedian to successfully make the transfer to the big screen. Carrey's wacky persona doesn't outstay its welcome in this funny and bizarre movie. Edinburgh: UCl. I The Adventures Of Huck Finn (PG) (Stephen Sommers. US. 1993) Elijah Wood. Courtney B. Vance. Robbie Coltrane. Jason Robards. l08 mins. Woods. America‘s best male child actor. carries his role at the centre of this appealing Disney version of Mark Twain‘s classic. Teaming tip with a runaway slave. Huck heads down the Mississippi. meeting two riverfront rouges: The Duke (Coltrane) and The King (Robards). l‘ine entertainment for all the family. Glasgow: MGM Parkhead. Central: Cannon.

I The Age Of Innocence ([1) (Martin Scorsese. l’S. l993) Daniel Day-Lewis. Michelle Pfeiffer. Winona Ryder. 138 mins. Up-and-coming lawyer Newland Archer risks the wrath of 1870s New York society when he falls iii love with the scandal-shrouded Countess ()lenska. despite being already engaged. Scorsese is magnificently faithful to Edith Wharton's novel. while painting its troubled emotions with an eloquent camera. ()pulent and richly detailed. with no release from the internalised pain of passion. Strathclyde: UCl Clydebank.

I Aladdin ([7) (John Musker/Ron Clements. L7S. I992) With the voices of Robin Williams. Scott Weinger. Linda Larkin. 9i mins. Panto time. Disney style. as street-wise thief Aladdin woos Princess Jasmine with the help of the Genie of the Lamp and hindrance of the evil Jafar. Colourful. entertaining stuff that will be lapped tip by children and adults alike. Williams's whirling dervish of a Genie inevitably steals the show. Central: MacRobert.

I All You Never Wanted to Know About Women (18) (Lothar Lambert. Geniiany. 1991) 80 mins. Post-Wall Berlin seen through the unstable eyes of a psychiatrist whose ‘therapeutic commiine' of neurotic women has just been infiltrated by a suspiciously normal East German. An off-beat comedy about reunification and the search for the perfect sexual partner. from a veteran of Berlin‘s gay and underground film scene. Glasgow: Gl’l‘.

I Angie (15) (Martha Coolidge. US. l994) Geena Davis. James Gandolfini. Stephen Rea. l08 mins. Born and bred in the New York district of Bensonhiirst. Angie still cherishes the dreams of her childhood. Driven by ideals of self-bettcmient. her life changes when she falls pregnant to her boyfriend. I The Aristocats (U) (Wolfgang Reithennan. US. l970) With the voices of Phil Harris. Eva Gabor. Sterling Holloway. 78 mins. A street- wise alley cat woos an upper-class feline against the backdrop of tum-of—the-century Paris. Loads of loveable cats. dogs. mice detectives and human adversaries. alongside some of Disney‘s more underrated songs. Edinburgh: UCl. Strathclyde: UCl East Kilbride.

I Bad Lieutenant ( l8) (Abel Ferrara. US. I992) Harvey Keitel. Frankie Thome. Zoe Lund. 96 mins. A return to urban sleaze by master of the genre Abel Fen'ara. A NYPD cop (Keitel). in debt due to drugs. alcohol and gambling addiction. is intrigued by a big money reward in the case of a raped nun. Harsh. powerful. but filled with a religious orthodoxy. this is a reminder of the director at his best (Angel of Vengeance. Driller Killer) and should be picked up by Resen'oir Dogs fans. I BananasHS) (Woody Allen. US. 197l) Woody Allen. Louise Lasser. Carlos Montalban. 8i mins. The lad‘s second feature centres on a neurotic. wimpy. Jewish New Yorker (guess who plays this part?) who gets caught up in a South American revolution. The plot is a somewhat flimsy vehicle for Woody's wonderful one- liners. but there's a degree of cynical

FIRST Bill I Three colours: White Less lyrical and visually stylised than his recent works, Kieslowski’s second instalment in his tricolour trilogy is a very human comedy set in France and Poland. Terrible plotting. ineffectual action scenes. insultingjumps in the narrative filled in by stilted vocal explanations - if there's a worse film this year. i don‘t want to see it. See review. Evil robot versions of that most excellent duo totally kill our heroes. causing them to take on the Grim Reaper at party games. make a quick visit to Heaven and eventually win the day. A
