Django Bates's Human Chain and Fifth Floor Theatre Company collaborate on a hilarious jazz-theatre event. based around the travails of two lovers. Bates's music is the best thing in the show. and the band have developed some genuinely original ways of using it. and of interacting with the actors.

The Shakedown Club (7pm) brings back the one and only Billy Jenkins in a trio with Steve Noble and Roberto Bellatalla. Argy- Bargy (8.10pm) pits the Bancroft twins against the Arguelles brothers. with no holds barred. Whose Solo ls It Anyway? (9pm) is a crazed musical challenge (with Jenkins again). and the whole thing is rounded out by The Bill Wells Octet at 10.10pm.

' 7’ JOE ZAWIHUL a TBILOK GURTU Listening to Triloit Gurtu’s trio on their last tour of Scotland, the name which constantly came to mind in connection with their music was that of Weather Report co-iounder Joe Zawinul. On this occasion, though, the influences will be direct from source and not secondhand, which makes this an altogether appropriate pairing, and one which the two men have explored live already, as well as collaborating on

ourtu’s ‘Crazy Saints’ album, although not as a duo.
