lfyou've never been to the Festival before then it can be a bit daunting and extremely confusing. The Festival is, in fact. three festivals. or four every other year when the Book Festival makes an appearance. Along with these there are several other events. all running at the same time. In order to help you keep a tenuous grip on sanity here's a guide on how to find out about performances and where to buy tickets for them.

I Glenlivet Fireworks Concert Thurs 1 Sept, 10.30pm. This is a must. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra perform various classical pieces at the Ross Bandstand in Princes Street Gardens while a spectacular fireworks display explodes over the castle. Most of Edinburgh and its visitors crowd onto Princes Street and The Mound. Some pay for seats and standing spaces in the Gardens but those tickets are now Sold Out.
