I ll Seminario Musicale Greyfriars Kirk. Greyfriars Place. 225 5366. 8pm. £6—£10 (£4—£8). Come 1690 and the Glorious Revolution. James VII of Scotland and II of England found it prudent to take an extended overseas break and shifted to Saint-Germain-en Laye outside Paris. In order to counter the glums he listened to rather a lot of Italian music. The Seminario recreates these cantatas and arias with the help of Gerard Lesne (contralto). Blandine Rannou (harpsichord). Bruno Cocset (cello) and Pascal Montheillet (theorbo).

James Loughran conducts the orchestra in works by Schubert. Mozart and Strauss including The Gypsy Baron, Egyptian March, Thunder and Lightning Polka, the Blue Danube and the Pizzicato Polka. Julian Evans is the pianist.
