I Before Christopher Columbus arrived in the Caribbean - bringing with him the

culture that is progressively destroying the South American wilderness - rich, varied and complex societies existed throughout the Andes. Incredibly, one still survives, threatened but almost intact. Based on Alan Ereira’s 1989 BBC documentary and book, Heart of the World, Gold is a dance-piece about the Kogi, an ancient society living around the Sierra Nevada in north-eastern Colombia, whose traditions continue, but whose religious seers are deeply worried that the ‘Younger Brother’ from the West is destroying the fabric of the world. A new production by State Theta, Gold tours Scotland in August and September.

A brand new production from local collaborative arts company State Theta. written by Gaelic author Donald William Stewart and directed by the dynamic Swindon-based dancer/choreographer Pete Purdy. Based on Alan Ereira's inspiring TV documentary Heart oft/1e World (first screened in 1989) it retells the story of the Kogi people of the South American rainforests - who used the BBC film to relay an environmerit-conscious ‘Message to the Younger Brother‘ (the outside world) and draws parallels between Kogi and Gaelic culture.
